Ruku Calls for Unity, Development-Focused Leadership in Mbeere
By Ian Kiprotich
Residents of Mbeere have been urged to shun clan-based politics and instead embrace unity and development-oriented leadership as the region seeks to accelerate social and economic progress.
Speaking at Katheru Primary School in Mbeere North during the handover of a modern classroom complex funded by Safaricom Foundation, Cabinet Secretary for Public Service, Human Capital Development and Special Programmes Geoffrey Ruku said divisive politics could undermine development efforts and create unnecessary tensions among residents.
Ruku emphasized that the future of Mbeere and the wider Embu region depends on leaders who prioritize service delivery and tangible development projects rather than ethnic or clan affiliations.
"We must remain united and focus on what benefits our people. Leadership should be judged by the impact it has on the lives of wananchi and the development it brings to communities," he said.
The Cabinet Secretary challenged residents to assess political leaders based on their track record, achievements, and ability to deliver meaningful projects. He noted that politics driven by personal interests and divisions often slows development and distracts leaders from addressing the needs of citizens.
During his address, Ruku criticized some political figures, including former Embu Senator Lenny Kivuti, accusing them of promoting divisive politics instead of championing initiatives aimed at improving livelihoods and expanding opportunities for residents.
He also took issue with former Cabinet Secretaries Peter Munya and Fred Matiang’i, alleging that they have concentrated more on their political ambitions than on recognizing and supporting ongoing government development programmes.
Ruku defended the Kenya Kwanza administration, saying the government has continued to invest heavily in key sectors that directly impact citizens' lives. He cited ongoing projects in education, road infrastructure, water supply, agriculture, and social protection as evidence of the administration's commitment to improving living standards across the country.
The handover of the new classroom complex at Katheru Primary School was welcomed by education stakeholders and local residents, who said the facility would help improve the learning environment and accommodate a growing student population.
The project, supported by Safaricom Foundation, is expected to enhance access to quality education in the area and contribute to better academic outcomes for learners.
Ruku reiterated that sustainable development can only be achieved through unity, collective responsibility, and support for initiatives that uplift communities, urging residents to reject politics of division and work together for the prosperity of the region.
