MWEA MP MARY MAINGI DELIVERS ON ROAD INFRASTRUCTURE PROMISES TO BOOST FARMERS' ACCESS TO MARKETS
Mwea Member of Parliament Hon. Mary Maingi has reaffirmed her commitment to transforming the constituency's road network, citing significant progress in the upgrading of key roads aimed at easing transportation challenges and supporting agricultural productivity.
The MP noted that upon assuming office, she made a commitment to address the high transport costs faced by rice farmers due to poor and impassable roads. She said that promise is steadily becoming a reality through sustained investment in road infrastructure across the constituency.
Among the roads that have been upgraded through grading, murraming, and tarmacking are the Kagio–Kinyaga–Ngothi–Kirwara Road, Kimbimbi–Karoti–Kajiji–Togonye–PI Road, and the PI–Whiterose–Muthithi Road. Several other access roads in Mutithi, Nyangati, Murinduko, and surrounding areas are also undergoing improvement.
According to the MP, the road projects are designed to enhance connectivity, improve mobility, and facilitate the efficient movement of agricultural produce from farms to markets.
Residents and farmers have welcomed the ongoing infrastructure developments, noting that improved roads are reducing travel times, lowering transport costs, and increasing access to essential services.
Hon. Maingi emphasized that road infrastructure remains a critical driver of economic growth, particularly in an agricultural constituency such as Mwea where efficient transportation directly impacts farmers' earnings and livelihoods.
She reiterated that development is not merely about constructing roads but about creating opportunities, opening markets, and improving the quality of life for residents.
The MP further pledged to continue working with relevant government agencies and stakeholders to ensure that every part of Mwea benefits from improved infrastructure and enhanced accessibility.
The ongoing road upgrades form part of a broader development agenda aimed at accelerating economic growth, supporting farmers, and strengthening connectivity throughout the constituency.
