Massive Tilapia Harvest Signals Success of Chepsaita Aquaculture Project

Joy and excitement filled the air in Chepsaita in Ng’enyilel Ward of Turbo Sub-County, as members of Sikika SACCO celebrated a successful harvest from the Chepsaita Aquaculture Project, reaping hundreds of fully grown and nutritious tilapia fish from the community pond.

The project beneficiaries expressed their gratitude after witnessing the fruits of their hard work and the support received through the initiative. One of the SACCO members, Jacinta, could not hide her excitement during the harvest.

"Tumefurahi sana kwa haya mazao. Tumeona mambo mazuri ya Governor wetu na FLLoCA," she said, expressing appreciation for the positive impact the project has had on the community.

The Chepsaita Aquaculture Project was implemented under the Financing Locally-Led Climate Action (FLLoCA) Programme, which facilitated the construction of the fish pond and supplied more than 2,000 fingerlings to kick-start fish farming activities.

The initiative has emerged as a major success story, with expectations that the livelihoods of Sikika SACCO members and the wider Chepsaita community will significantly improve through income generated from fish sales.

County officials who attended the harvest included Ward Administrator Sheillah Menjo, Director of Planning and Administration in the Department of Environment, Kipchumba Arusei, and Climate Change Unit (CCU) member in charge of Turbo, Meshack Amai.

Speaking during the event, county officials reaffirmed the county government's commitment to supporting community-based economic empowerment projects under
