KENAPCO Chairperson Dr. Ekrah Ndung’u Celebrates Fathers as Key Drivers of Family Stability and National Progress

As Kenya joins the rest of the world in marking Father’s Day, the Chairperson of the Kenya National Association of Private Colleges (KENAPCO), Dr. Ekrah Ndung’u, has joined in celebrating fathers and father figures across the country, recognizing their immense contribution to family stability, youth development, and national transformation.

Father’s Day is a special occasion that provides an opportunity to honor men who, through sacrifice, resilience, and commitment, continue to shape the foundation of families and communities. It is a moment to reflect on the critical role fathers play in nurturing children, supporting households, and contributing to the broader development of society.

According to Dr. Ekrah, fathers remain a cornerstone of social stability, serving as providers, mentors, protectors, and role models whose influence extends far beyond their immediate families.

“Today, we celebrate fathers and father figures whose dedication, sacrifices, and unwavering commitment continue to strengthen families and inspire communities. Your role in shaping the next generation is invaluable to the future of our nation,” said the KENAPCO Chairperson.

She noted that the family remains the most important unit of society, and fathers play a central role in ensuring that this unit remains strong, stable, and capable of supporting the growth and development of children. Through their guidance, fathers help instill values such as discipline, integrity, responsibility, hard work, and respect.

Dr. Ekrah emphasized that across Kenya, fathers continue to make significant sacrifices to provide for their families. Many work long hours in formal employment, entrepreneurship, agriculture, and other sectors to ensure that their children have access to education, healthcare, and better opportunities.

She observed that while these sacrifices are often made quietly and without expectation of recognition, their impact is profound and long-lasting, shaping the trajectory of entire families for generations.

“Behind many successful individuals are fathers who worked tirelessly, often under difficult circumstances, to ensure their children had a better chance at life. Their contribution to society is both foundational and transformative,” she said.

As the head of an organization in the education sector, Dr. Ekrah particularly highlighted the importance of fathers in supporting education and skills development. She noted that many students in private colleges and institutions across Kenya are where they are today because of the sacrifices made by their fathers or father figures.

She emphasized that education remains one of the most powerful tools for breaking cycles of poverty and creating opportunities for upward mobility, and fathers play a critical role in making this possible.

“When fathers invest in education, they are investing not only in their children but in the future of our nation. Every student who succeeds is often supported by a father who believed in the power of education,” she added.

Dr. Ekrah also highlighted the evolving nature of fatherhood in modern society. Today’s fathers are increasingly embracing more active roles in parenting, including caregiving, emotional support, mentorship, and participation in their children’s education and personal development.

She noted that this shift has strengthened families and created healthier, more supportive environments where children can thrive.

Research continues to show that children who grow up with engaged fathers tend to perform better academically, develop stronger emotional intelligence, and exhibit higher levels of confidence and resilience. Fathers therefore play a critical role in shaping not only family outcomes but also national development.

Dr. Ekrah further paid tribute to single fathers, guardians, grandfathers, uncles, and mentors who have stepped into parental roles and provided guidance and support to children in need. Their commitment reflects the true meaning of fatherhood, which is rooted in responsibility, care, and sacrifice.

“Fatherhood is not defined by biology alone. It is defined by presence, responsibility, and love. We honor all men who have taken up this noble role and positively impacted the lives of children,” she said.

The KENAPCO Chairperson also underscored the importance of positive male role models in society. She noted that fathers help shape the moral and social fabric of communities by demonstrating values such as honesty, discipline, compassion, and respect.

She encouraged fathers to continue being active participants in the lives of their children, emphasizing that even small moments of engagement—such as conversations, shared experiences, and mentorship—can have lasting impacts.

“Children do not only need material support; they need emotional presence, guidance, and encouragement. Fathers who are present in their children’s lives help build confident and responsible future leaders,” she observed.

Dr. Ekrah also called on society to recognize and appreciate fathers more regularly, not only on Father’s Day but throughout the year. She noted that acknowledging their contributions helps strengthen family bonds and encourages positive parenting practices.

She emphasized that strong families are the foundation of strong communities, and strong communities are essential for national progress. Therefore, supporting and strengthening fatherhood is key to achieving sustainable development.

As Kenya celebrates Father’s Day, she encouraged all families to take time to honor the fathers and father figures who have made meaningful contributions to their lives. Expressions of gratitude, she said, help reinforce the value of love, sacrifice, and commitment within families.

In her concluding message, Dr. Ekrah extended heartfelt appreciation to fathers across the country.

“To every father, grandfather, guardian, mentor, and father figure, thank you for your sacrifices, your guidance, and your unwavering love. Your contribution to your families, your communities, and our nation is immeasurable. As we celebrate Father’s Day, may you be honored, appreciated, and inspired to continue shaping the future of our children and our country. Happy Father’s Day.”

As families across Kenya mark this special occasion, Dr. Ekrah’s message serves as a powerful reminder that fathers remain essential pillars of stability, progress, and hope—building stronger families today for a better nation tomorrow.
