Incoming Limuru MP 2027 Hon. Peter Mwathi Stands in Solidarity With 40 MPs Who Rejected Finance Bill 2026
Incoming Limuru MP Hon. Peter Mwathi has expressed strong solidarity with 40 Members of the National Assembly who voted against the Finance Bill 2026, praising them for what he described as a historic and courageous stand in defense of ordinary Kenyans.
The MPs were commended for rejecting the Bill during the decisive vote held on Thursday, June 18, 2026, a move that has continued to shape national political debate.
DCP Party leader Rigathi Gachagua also joined in praising the 40 MPs, saying their decision reflected the voice of the people and demonstrated rare political courage in resisting pressure and standing firm on principle.
In his remarks, the Seasoned politician Peter Mwathi—who is seeking the Limuru parliamentary seat—stated that history would remember the 40 MPs who stood with Kenyans at a critical time. He described them as leaders who chose to prioritize the welfare of citizens over political convenience or alignment.
Mwathi emphasized that the legislators’ decision represented true democratic representation, arguing that elected leaders must always remain accountable to the people who entrusted them with power. He added that standing with citizens in moments of economic difficulty is the true measure of leadership.
He further stated that the rejection of the Finance Bill 2026 was a reflection of widespread public concern over the rising cost of living and the need for policies that protect rather than burden households.
The Limuru aspirant called on Kenyans to recognize and remember leaders who voted against the Bill, insisting that electoral accountability would ultimately determine how such decisions are judged in the future.
The Finance Bill vote has continued to generate national discussion, highlighting divisions over taxation, government revenue needs, and public welfare priorities.
As the debate continues, the 40 MPs maintain that their decision was guided by principle and public interest, insisting that leadership must always reflect the aspirations and economic realities of the people.
“God Bless Kenya,” the sentiment associated with the statement underscores what supporters describe as a defining moment of parliamentary independence and citizen-centered governance.
