Sports Cabinet Secretary Salim Mvurya has assured Bungoma residents that the long-awaited Masinde Muliro Kanduyi Stadium will be completed by October after the government moved to accelerate the remaining works at the facility.

Speaking during an inspection tour of the stadium on Monday, Mvurya acknowledged that construction had progressed more slowly than anticipated but affirmed that the government had put in place measures to ensure the project is delivered within the set timeline.

"The project experienced delays, but we have agreed that all outstanding payments to contractors engaged by both the County Government and the National Government will be settled. A new contractor will then be deployed to complete the remaining works so that the stadium is ready by October," said Mvurya.

The Cabinet Secretary said the outstanding works include laying a FIFA-standard pitch, installing a tartan athletics track, completing the changing rooms, elevating the roof to the required standards, and finalizing other critical infrastructure.

He described the 30,000-seater facility as a flagship sports infrastructure project that will nurture local talent, promote sports development in the region, and position Bungoma to host top-tier national and international football matches.

Governor Kenneth Lusaka welcomed the government's renewed commitment to the project, calling for the expedited completion of the stadium.

"The completion of Masinde Muliro Stadium will unlock immense opportunities for our youth by providing a world-class facility to nurture talent while stimulating economic growth through sports tourism and major sporting events," said Lusaka.

Once completed, the stadium is expected to transform the sporting landscape in Bungoma and the wider Western Kenya region by providing a modern venue that meets international standards for athletics and football competitions.
