Murkomen Praises Church and Residents for Helping Reduce Drug Abuse in Nandi
The fight against drug and alcohol abuse in Nandi County took centre stage during a church fundraiser in Kapsabet, where Kipchumba Murkomen praised residents, religious leaders and security officers for working together to protect young people from the growing menace.
Murkomen spoke during a Holy Mass and fundraising event at St. Peter's Cathedral Kapsabet attended by Musalia Mudavadi, local leaders and hundreds of faithful.
The Interior CS said cooperation between the church, the community and county security teams had helped reduce cases of illicit brews and drug abuse that had previously affected many families in the region.
“I commend the church and the people of this county for standing together in the fight against drugs and alcohol abuse. We are seeing progress because everyone has played a role,” Murkomen said.
He noted that churches had become important partners in guiding young people, strengthening family values and promoting responsible living within communities.
The leaders had gathered to support fundraising efforts aimed at improving church infrastructure, with worshippers contributing towards ongoing development projects at the cathedral.
Murkomen also encouraged residents to remain united in addressing social challenges affecting society, saying lasting change can only be achieved when communities work together.
Quoting the Bible verse Proverbs 31:25 — “She is clothed with strength and dignity; she can laugh at the days to come” — the CS urged faithful to continue nurturing hope, faith and resilience.
The event brought together political leaders, clergy, business people and local residents in an atmosphere marked by prayer, worship and community spirit.
