MOMBASA MANHUNT ENDS: DCI Nabs Viral Facebook User Over Inflammatory Posts That Sparked National Outrage

Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have arrested a man accused of publishing and distributing inflammatory social media content that triggered widespread public outrage across the country.

The suspect, identified as David Onyango Elgon, popularly known online as MC Adek Tatu, was apprehended following an intensive operation by detectives who tracked him down to his residence at Queen’s Court in Utange, Mombasa County.

According to investigators, the controversial posts were published on the suspect’s Facebook account and quickly went viral across multiple social media platforms. Authorities say the content was deemed insensitive and inflammatory, raising concerns over its potential impact on public peace, national cohesion, and public order.

Acting on actionable intelligence, detectives launched a manhunt that culminated in the suspect’s arrest at his hideout in Mombasa. He is currently being held in police custody and is undergoing processing ahead of his arraignment in court.

In a statement, the DCI cautioned social media users against abusing online platforms, emphasizing that freedom of expression must be exercised responsibly and within the confines of the law.

"The digital space is not a lawless jungle," the agency stated, warning that individuals who publish or share content that incites public outrage, hatred, or division could face legal consequences.

The arrest has sparked intense debate online, with many Kenyans weighing in on the balance between free speech and responsible use of social media.

Authorities have urged members of the public to remain vigilant and to use digital platforms responsibly to foster unity and peaceful coexistence.
