Kenya Prisons Edge Maseno University in Thrilling One-Point Victory to Reach Championship Qualifiers Quarter-Finals

The race for the  2025/26 Championship Qualifiers intensified on 2nd May 2026 as Match Week 20, with Kenya Prisons RFC producing one of the standout performances of the round after narrowly defeating Maseno University RFC 18–17 in a tense pre-quarterfinal clash.

In a fixture defined by defensive grit and fine margins, Kenya Prisons held their nerve in the dying stages to secure a crucial one-point win that books their place in the quarter-finals. The prison warders showed resilience under pressure, fending off a spirited Maseno side that pushed them all the way to the final whistle.

Maseno University struck early intent with sharp attacking phases, but Kenya Prisons responded with disciplined structure and timely conversions that kept them within reach throughout the encounter. With both sides exchanging points in a tightly contested battle, the match ultimately came down to composure in the closing moments, where Kenya Prisons proved just enough to edge ahead.

The victory sets up a tough quarter-final showdown for Kenya Prisons against Makueni RFC, who themselves impressed with a commanding 35–20 win over Embu RFC.

Elsewhere in the Championship Qualifiers, EldoPoly Community RFC delivered a strong 34–20 victory over KCA University, while Kabarak University edged Stallions’ Rugby 26–24 in another closely fought contest. Kisii National Polytechnic secured a 17–10 win over Meru University, AP Warriors dominated Chuka University 55–12, and Sigalagala National Polytechnic cruised past TUM Marines 33–03. Makueni RFC’s form continued to stand out, while Kilifi Titans progressed following a walkover against Egerton University.
