IEBC Receives First Batch of Ballot Papers at JKIA as Countdown to 14th May 2026 By-Elections Intensifies

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has today morning received a crucial shipment of ballot papers and statutory election forms at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA), marking a significant step in final preparations for the upcoming 14th May 2026 by-elections.

The consignment, consisting of three pallets of sensitive election materials, was securely airlifted into the country after being printed by Inform Lykos (Hellas) SA in Athens. The materials are intended for use in three electoral areas: the Member of National Assembly by-election for Emurua Dikirr Constituency, and Member of County Assembly contests in Porro Ward and Endo Ward.

Upon arrival at JKIA, the pallets were received under strict security arrangements before being transported to the IEBC’s central warehouse in Nairobi’s Industrial Area. From there, the Commission is set to begin the immediate dispatch of election materials to constituency tallying centres across the affected regions.

In keeping with its commitment to transparency and accountability, the IEBC invited political party representatives and members of the media to witness the arrival and handling of the election materials. The exercise is aimed at reinforcing public confidence in the electoral process and ensuring openness in all critical stages of election preparation.

The Commission noted that logistics for the by-elections are now in their final stages, with only a few operational steps remaining. These include the continued training of polling officials, who will later take the Oath of Secrecy before deployment to polling stations.

Security agencies have also been working closely with the IEBC to guarantee safe transportation, storage, and eventual deployment of all election materials, amid heightened readiness ahead of polling day.

Campaign activities in the three electoral areas are expected to officially conclude today at 5pm, in line with electoral regulations. After the campaign period closes, the IEBC will shift focus entirely to final deployment and last-mile preparations.

With all key processes—including printing, transport, training, and security coordination—now at advanced stages, the Commission has expressed confidence in its preparedness, stating that all systems are firmly in place to deliver credible, transparent, and well-managed by-elections on 14th May 2026.
