Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen on Sunday evening visited hospitalized artist Rachel Wandeto, who is recovering from severe injuries after a shocking attack allegedly linked to her political views.

Speaking after the visit, Murkomen condemned the assault as “barbaric” and assured Kenyans that security agencies were pursuing those responsible with urgency.

Wandeto reportedly sustained serious burns during the attack and is currently receiving specialized treatment under close medical supervision.

“This barbaric act has no place in our society,” Murkomen said. “The Constitution guarantees every Kenyan the freedom to express political opinions without fear, intimidation, or violence.”

The CS emphasized that investigators were working around the clock to uncover the motive behind the attack and ensure the perpetrators face the full force of the law.

“We will take all measures necessary to rein in divisive and incendiary political rhetoric that is fueling hatred and radicalization,” he added.

Murkomen maintained that no Kenyan should suffer harm because of their beliefs, regardless of political affiliation.

“We wish Rachel a quick recovery and strength to her family during this painful moment. The Government, under the leadership of President William Ruto, will support the family to ensure she receives the best possible medical care,” he said.

The visit was also attended by Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja alongside senior security officials, signaling the seriousness with which the government is treating the incident.

The attack on Wandeto has sparked outrage online, with many Kenyans demanding swift justice and greater protection for freedom of expression amid rising political tensions in the country.
