Uasin Gishu to Expand Rehabilitation Services as 13 Graduate from Moiben Centre
The County Government of Uasin Gishu has announced plans to expand the County Rehabilitation and Treatment Centre in Moiben, increasing its capacity beyond the current 24 clients in a move aimed at improving access to treatment for individuals struggling with substance abuse.
The expansion, which is already underway, is part of a broader county strategy to strengthen rehabilitation infrastructure and enhance service delivery across the region. Officials say the initiative reflects growing concern over rising cases of drug and alcohol dependency and the need for more comprehensive support systems.
In a further step toward inclusive care, the county is also in the process of establishing a dedicated rehabilitation facility for women. The planned centre is expected to address the increasing demand for gender-responsive treatment services, offering a safe and supportive environment tailored to the unique needs of female clients.
Speaking during a graduation ceremony on Friday for 13 clients under the seventh cohort at the Moiben facility, County Alcoholic Drinks Control Board (ADCB) Director Koiya Arap Maiyo said the expansion efforts are being implemented under the leadership of Governor Dr. Jonathan Bii.
Maiyo noted that the county remains committed to strengthening recovery programs and ensuring that more residents have access to professional treatment and rehabilitation services. He also commended the graduates for their resilience and encouraged them to serve as ambassadors of change within their communities.
The Moiben Rehabilitation Centre has been a key pillar in the county’s fight against substance abuse, providing structured treatment programs, counseling, and reintegration support. With the planned expansion and additional facilities, the county aims to reach more individuals in need and curb the social and economic impact of addiction.
County officials reiterated their commitment to investing in preventive and rehabilitative measures as part of a long-term strategy to build healthier and more productive communities.
