Security Forces Recover 101 Stolen Cattle in Laikipia Anti-Banditry Operation

A multi-agency security team has recovered 101 stolen cattle in Laikipia County as part of ongoing operations to combat cattle rustling and banditry in the region.

The recovery followed a targeted operation conducted on April 13, 2026, in the expansive Mukogodo Forest, an area that has previously been flagged as a hotspot for livestock theft and criminal activity. The operation, involving coordinated patrols, covered the areas of Arjijo, Anandangu’ro, and Lokosero.

According to the National Police Service, the livestock was successfully secured and escorted to a nearby police station, where the animals are currently being held pending identification, verification, and eventual handover to their rightful owners.

Security officials described the recovery as a significant step in ongoing efforts to dismantle criminal networks operating in Laikipia and neighboring counties. The region has in recent years faced persistent challenges linked to cattle rustling and armed banditry, often resulting in loss of livelihoods and heightened insecurity among local communities.

Authorities say the success of the operation is attributed to sustained multi-agency collaboration, enhanced surveillance, and growing cooperation from local residents.

“This recovery underscores the steady progress being made in curbing criminal activities and restoring order in affected areas,” the police said in a statement.

The National Police Service reiterated its commitment to maintaining pressure on criminal elements through continuous operations, with a focus on securing communities and protecting property.

Residents have been urged to continue working closely with security agencies by sharing information that could help prevent further incidents of livestock theft and banditry.

Officials expressed optimism that continued enforcement efforts and community engagement will help restore confidence among residents and contribute to long-term stability in Laikipia County and its surrounding areas.
