Police Dismantle ‘Tokyo Mafias’ Gang in Makadara, Nairobi in Major Crackdown

A coordinated police operation has led to the arrest of ten suspected gang members linked to a criminal group known as the “Tokyo Mafias” in Makadara, following an intelligence-led crackdown supported by members of the public.

According to the National Police Service, officers from South B Police Station conducted the operation on April 11, 2026, targeting suspected criminal hideouts in the Fuata Nyayo and Shimo La Tewa areas.

The operation was launched after credible intelligence and public tip-offs pointed to increased criminal activity attributed to the gang, which authorities say has been linked to burglaries and violent robberies in parts of Nairobi.

During the raid, police arrested ten suspects and recovered an imitation firearm believed to have been used to intimidate victims during criminal operations. Officers also seized several offensive weapons, including pangas and swords, which were allegedly used in attacks.

In addition, two television sets suspected to have been stolen were recovered, along with various house-breaking tools believed to have facilitated break-ins within the sub-county.

The suspects are currently being held at South B Police Station and are expected to undergo processing before being arraigned in court.

Police commended members of the public for providing timely intelligence that contributed to the success of the operation, emphasizing the importance of continued collaboration between communities and law enforcement.

“The success of this operation underscores the critical role of public cooperation in fighting crime,” the National Police Service said in a statement.

Authorities urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities, noting that intelligence sharing remains key in dismantling organized criminal networks operating in urban areas.

The crackdown comes as security agencies intensify efforts to curb rising cases of gang-related crime in parts of Nairobi, with officials pledging sustained operations to restore safety and order in affected neighbourhoods.
