Police Destroy 2,000 Litres of Illicit Brew in Nairobi Crackdown

The National Police Service has successfully dismantled an illicit brewing operation in Soweto, Nairobi, destroying approximately 2,000 litres of kangara and associated brewing equipment in a targeted operation aimed at curbing drug and substance abuse.

According to authorities, the exercise forms part of sustained efforts to tackle the rising social, economic, and public health risks posed by narcotics and illegal alcoholic beverages within communities.

“The operation not only disrupts illegal supply chains but also sends a strong message to those engaged in such activities that law enforcement will not tolerate them,” said police officials overseeing the intervention.

The confiscated brewing equipment, alongside the 2,000 litres of illicit brew, was systematically destroyed to prevent further circulation in the community. Authorities emphasized that such interventions are essential in safeguarding public health and reinforcing compliance with national laws.

This crackdown is part of a broader commitment by the National Police Service to enforce proactive and continuous measures that protect community well-being. Officers noted that operations targeting drug and substance abuse will continue, alongside prevention campaigns designed to reduce demand and encourage safe, healthy lifestyles.

Residents have welcomed the move, describing it as a critical step in tackling illegal alcohol and narcotics that have been linked to crime, family breakdowns, and health emergencies in Nairobi neighborhoods.

The National Police Service reaffirmed its pledge to maintain vigilance, strengthen enforcement strategies, and support national efforts aimed at combating the scourge of drug and substance abuse across Kenya.
