Governor Bii, Oparanya Chart Path to Revive Coffee Sector
Uasin Gishu Governor Jonathan Bii has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to revitalizing the coffee sector as a key driver of economic growth and household income in the county.
Speaking after a consultative meeting in Nairobi with the Cabinet Secretary for Cooperatives and MSMEs Development, Hon. Wycliffe Oparanya, Governor Bii emphasized the critical role coffee farming continues to play in transforming livelihoods and strengthening the agricultural backbone of the region.
The governor noted that his government is implementing targeted interventions aimed at rejuvenating coffee production, including the distribution of certified coffee seedlings to farmers and the ongoing construction of a modern coffee milling plant to enhance value addition.
He explained that the initiatives are designed to expand coffee acreage, improve productivity, and ensure better returns for farmers by enabling them to participate more competitively in the coffee value chain.
Governor Bii described his discussions with the Cabinet Secretary as fruitful, noting that both levels of government are aligned on strategies to strengthen cooperatives and support smallholder farmers.
He added that enhanced collaboration between the national and county governments will be key to unlocking the full potential of the coffee sector, boosting incomes, creating jobs, and accelerating socio-economic transformation in Uasin Gishu.
