Eldoret Gears Up for Thrilling Marathon as Governor Bii Rallies Nation to ‘City of Champions’

Uasin Gishu Governor Jonathan Bii has called on athletes, fans, and leaders across the country to converge in Eldoret this Sunday for the highly anticipated Eldoret City Marathon, promising a bigger, faster, and more vibrant edition.

Positioning the race as more than just a competition, Bii said the marathon reaffirms Eldoret’s global reputation as a powerhouse of athletics, proudly living up to its “City of Champions” title.

“This is not just a race—it is a celebration of our identity, our talent, and our excellence,” Bii said, noting that the event will once again draw elite runners, emerging stars, and community participants from across Kenya and beyond.

In a bid to inject fresh excitement, this year’s marathon introduces a high-speed One Mile race, adding a new layer of intensity to the programme. A children’s race has also been included, aimed at nurturing budding athletes and inspiring the next generation to follow in the footsteps of Kenya’s running legends.

The governor emphasized that the marathon’s impact stretches far beyond the track, highlighting its role in boosting the local economy through increased tourism, business activity, and job opportunities.

“From our hotels to small businesses, this event creates real opportunities for our people while showcasing Eldoret to the world,” he said.

Bii also extended a special invitation to leaders and stakeholders from the North Rift Economic Bloc (NOREB) to attend and support the event, underscoring the importance of regional unity in driving growth.
