Body of UK-Based Kenyan Nurse Esther Sitienei Arrives in Eldoret
The body of a Kenyan nurse who passed away in the United Kingdom has been repatriated, arriving at Eldoret International Airport in an emotional ceremony attended by family, friends, and colleagues.
Esther Sitienei, who died on April 4, 2026, after battling cancer, had built a distinguished nursing career spanning more than two decades in the UK. She served at University Hospitals of Leicester, where she worked in the Intensive Therapy Unit and earned widespread respect for her professionalism, compassion, and dedication to patient care.
Her arrival in Eldoret was marked by scenes of grief and remembrance, as loved ones gathered to receive her remains and pay their final respects. Many described her as a selfless caregiver who touched countless lives both in Kenya and abroad.
Originally from Kitale, Sitienei began her nursing journey in Nairobi before relocating to the United Kingdom in pursuit of further opportunities. Over the years, she became part of a growing community of Kenyan healthcare professionals serving in the diaspora.
