Women Groups Receive Boost in Mwea Empowerment Programme
Women groups in Mwea Constituency have received a major boost following an economic empowerment initiative spearheaded by area Member of Parliament Mary Maingi aimed at strengthening grassroots livelihoods and supporting community enterprises.
The programme, held on Friday in Wamumu and Thiba wards, brought together organised women groups to receive support intended to expand their economic activities, improve household incomes, and promote sustainable development within the constituency.
Speaking during the engagement, Ms. Maingi emphasised the critical role women play in driving economic growth and social transformation at the community level. She noted that empowering women at the grassroots is key to building stronger and more resilient local economies.
The initiative forms part of ongoing efforts by the Mwea legislator to support small-scale businesses and encourage collective initiatives among community groups, with the goal of enhancing financial independence and improving living standards.
Several leaders attended the event and expressed support for the programme, highlighting the importance of community-based empowerment initiatives in promoting inclusive development.
Among those present were Mwangi Kiunjuri, Gachoki Gitari, Duncan Mathenge Maina, and Anthony Njoroge Wainaina. Also in attendance were Charles Nyamu and nominated MCA Bosco Gichangi.
The leaders commended the initiative, noting that empowering women-led enterprises is essential in strengthening community development and improving livelihoods across the region.
