Uasin Gishu Shines as Mama Rachel Ruto Maternity Records Rise in Deliveries, Embraces Smart Security

A remarkable transformation is underway in Uasin Gishu County’s health sector, with Mama Rachel Ruto Maternity Hospital emerging as a beacon of progress after recording over 600 deliveries per month. The statistics are a clear sign of a growing public trust in maternal healthcare services.

Once modest in capacity, the facility is now thriving, with expectant mothers increasingly choosing it for safe, reliable, and quality care. Health officials attribute the rising numbers to improved service delivery, increased staffing, and upgraded infrastructure.

In a move that reinforces accountability and patient safety, the hospital has introduced biometric systems alongside CCTV surveillance.

The biometric technology is set to streamline staff attendance and enhance service tracking, while the CCTV network strengthens security for both patients and healthcare workers.

“This is about building confidence and ensuring transparency in our facilities,” says County Executive Committee Member for Health, Janet Kurgat. 

She notes that the adoption of technology is part of a broader strategy to modernize healthcare management across the County.

Kurgat further revealed that Uasin Gishu was recently recognized as the best -performing county in system management and among the most improved, an achievement credited to sustained reforms and strong leadership under Governor Dr. Jonathan Bii.

Dr. Paul Wangwe, Chief Officer for Promotive and Preventive Health, describes the recognition as a testament to teamwork and commitment. 

“We are witnessing the impact of deliberate investments in preventive care, system strengthening, and community outreach,” he says.

The announcement was made during a fundraiser for the late Maureen Jemutai Chemos, who was a nutritionist at Mama Rachel Ruto Maternity Hospital.

Member of County Assembly for Kiplombe Ward, Gilbert Lagat, eulogized the late Chemos as a selfless health worker whose work contributed to the progress of the facility.
