Tiaty MP William Kamket Accuses Gertrude’s Hospital of Negligence After Son’s Death

Tiaty Member of Parliament William Kamket has accused Gertrude’s Children’s Hospital of medical negligence following the death of his teenage son, who succumbed to pneumonia after receiving treatment at the facility.

In an emotional and strongly worded statement, Kamket questioned the quality of care his son received at the hospital’s Muthaiga branch in Nairobi. He alleged that critical medical procedures were either delayed or not conducted at all, raising concerns about possible lapses in diagnosis and treatment.

“I am deeply hurt,” Kamket said, expressing frustration over what he described as a failure by medical staff to fully examine his son. He further claimed that the medication administered was incomplete and that a crucial X-ray, which might have revealed the severity of the illness, was not carried out in time.

“Doctors are being careless; it has become a business, not treatment,” he added, suggesting that profit motives may be undermining patient care in some health institutions.

The legislator vowed to escalate the matter to Parliament and relevant regulatory authorities, seeking a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding his son’s death. He emphasized the need for accountability to prevent similar tragedies affecting other families.

Kamket also called for stricter oversight of healthcare providers, warning that vulnerable patients, particularly children, could be at risk if systemic issues are not addressed.

Gertrude’s Children’s Hospital has yet to issue an official response to the allegations.

The incident is likely to spark broader debate over healthcare standards and patient safety in Kenya, with growing public concern about the quality and accessibility of medical services.
