The Governor of Uasin Gishu County, Jonathan Bii Chelilim, has nominated Philip Kiprotich Chebunet for appointment as the County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for Trade, Industrialization, Tourism, Cooperatives, and Enterprise Development.

The nomination, announced in an official media release on Tuesday, is subject to approval by the County Assembly. If confirmed, Dr. Chebunet will take charge of a critical docket aimed at driving economic growth, investment, and enterprise development within the county.

Dr. Chebunet brings over two decades of experience in leadership, governance, and strategic communication. He is described as a seasoned scholar and public policy expert with a strong background in both academia and public administration.

He holds a PhD in Communication Studies from Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology, a Master of Philosophy in Communication Studies, and a Postgraduate Diploma in Public Relations from Moi University. In addition, he has professional certifications in mediation and public speaking, further strengthening his profile in leadership and stakeholder engagement.

According to the Governor’s office, Dr. Chebunet’s extensive experience in governance, policy formulation, and strategic leadership positions him well to spearhead initiatives in trade and enterprise development. His track record also includes work in entrepreneurship and economic development, areas considered vital to the county’s growth agenda.

The nomination now awaits vetting and approval by the County Assembly, a process that will determine whether Dr. Chebunet formally assumes the influential role.

If approved, his appointment is expected to bolster Uasin Gishu’s efforts to enhance trade, attract investment, and promote sustainable economic development across the region.
