NACADA Operation Nets Drugs Worth Sh4 Million, Dismantles Illicit Alcohol Den in Likoni

A multi-agency operation led by the National Authority for the Campaign Against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (NACADA) has resulted in the seizure of heroin and methamphetamine worth Sh4 million and the dismantling of an illegal alcohol manufacturing operation in Likoni Sub-County, Mombasa.

During the intelligence-led raid conducted in the early hours of Friday morning, officers confiscated 200 grams of heroin and methamphetamine and uncovered an illicit alcohol production site where fake tax stamps from the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) were being used to package counterfeit liquor.

Authorities arrested the main suspect, Charles Ongeri, who had reportedly been on the police radar for some time and had previously evaded arrest. Two of his accomplices were also apprehended during the operation.

According to NACADA officials, the illegal facility was involved in the production and distribution of unregulated alcoholic drinks, which were being packaged using counterfeit KRA stamps to give the impression that the products were legitimate and tax-compliant.

Dr. Anthony Omerikwa, Chief Executive Officer of NACADA, described the raid as a significant breakthrough in the ongoing fight against alcohol and drug abuse in the coastal region.

“This operation sends a strong message to individuals involved in the manufacture and distribution of illicit alcohol and drugs. Such substances pose serious health risks to consumers and undermine public safety,” said Dr. Omerikwa.

He warned that the consumption of illicit liquor has been linked to severe health complications, including organ failure, and urged members of the public to be vigilant when purchasing alcoholic beverages.

Dr. Omerikwa also encouraged communities to cooperate with authorities by reporting suspicious activities linked to drug trafficking and illegal alcohol production.

The suspects are expected to be arraigned in court once investigations are complete, as authorities intensify the crackdown on illicit alcohol and drug networks across the country.
