KEWOTA Ignites National Dialogue on Education Reform at Mombasa Learning Conference

The inaugural National Foundation Learning Conference, convened by the Ministry of Education at the scenic Wild Waters in Mombasa, turned into a defining moment for Kenya’s education sector — with KEWOTA emerging as a powerful voice for reform and transformation.

From the outset, the Kenya Women Teachers Association (KEWOTA) signaled that its presence would be more than ceremonial. The organization positioned itself at the center of national conversations on foundational learning, championing practical reforms and teacher empowerment.

The highlight of the conference came on Day Two, when KEWOTA Chief Executive Officer, Madam Benter Opande, delivered a keynote address that captivated policymakers, educators, and stakeholders alike.

“We must not romanticize foundational learning,” she said. “We must fund it, protect it, and prioritize it.”
