Keter Wins UDA Ticket for Emurua Dikirr MP Seat After Tight Contest
Businessman David Kipsang Keter is now poised for a strong bid for the Emurua Dikirr parliamentary seat after clinching the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party ticket in a closely contested nomination exercise held on Friday, March 27.
Keter, who has unsuccessfully vied for the seat three times in the past against the late Johana Ng’eno, secured 13,759 votes, edging out his closest rival Bernard Kipkoech Ng'eno, who garnered 13,394 votes.
The hotly contested nominations were conducted across 96 polling stations and were, however, marred by allegations of electoral malpractices, including bribery, repeat voting, and proxy voting in some areas.
Despite the concerns, UDA National Election Board Vice Chairperson Veronica Chebet, who supervised the tallying process at Emurua Dikirr Secondary School, affirmed the credibility of the exercise.
“The voting process has been smooth, free of any ugly incidences. The tallying is complete, and the winner has emerged as Mr Keter as per the wishes of the voters,” Chebet stated.
Keter’s victory attracted congratulatory messages from senior government officials, including Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen, who praised both candidates for their competitive campaigns.
“Hearty congratulations to David Keter on winning the hotly contested UDA nomination for Emurua Dikirr Constituency. Your patience, persistence, and resilience have finally paid off,” Murkomen said in a statement.
He also commended Bernard Ng’eno for his spirited challenge, noting that his performance demonstrated strength and sportsmanship.
Keter’s win now places him at the forefront of the race to succeed the late Ng’eno, significantly boosting his chances of finally securing a seat in the National Assembly.
Political observers say the businessman’s persistence and growing support base could prove निर्णसive as the constituency prepares for the upcoming by-election.
