Kenya Strengthens Maternal and Newborn Health Agenda Ahead of Global Conference

The Ministry of Health has reaffirmed Kenya’s commitment to improving maternal and newborn health following the conclusion of a high-level media breakfast briefing held at Serena Hotel Nairobi ahead of the International Maternal and Newborn Health Conference.

The session brought together members of the media, government officials, and development partners to highlight the country’s progress, priorities, and strategic commitments in advancing maternal and newborn health outcomes. It also served to enhance accurate, informed, and impactful media coverage in the lead-up to the global conference.

Speaking during the briefing, Edward Serem, Head of the Division of Reproductive, Maternal, Newborn, Child, and Adolescent Health (RMNCAH) at the Ministry of Health Kenya, was lauded for his outstanding leadership and dedication to strengthening the country’s health systems.

Under Dr. Serem’s stewardship, the RMNCAH division has made remarkable strides in expanding access to quality maternal and newborn health services, enhancing coordination across programs, and driving evidence-based interventions that continue to save lives. His visionary leadership has been instrumental in fostering strong partnerships and ensuring that Kenya remains on track in addressing key health challenges affecting mothers and children.

The Ministry emphasized that sustained investment, innovation, and collaboration remain central to achieving better health outcomes, noting that the upcoming conference will provide a critical platform for sharing Kenya’s progress and mobilizing further support.

As Kenya prepares to participate in the International Maternal and Newborn Health Conference, stakeholders expressed confidence in the country’s trajectory and reiterated their collective commitment to safeguarding the health and well-being of mothers and newborns nationwide.
