KENYA LEVERAGES SAFARI RALLY TO ACCELERATE AND STRENGTHEN MICE TOURISM AND GLOBAL DESTINATION BRANDING
The Government of Kenya has reaffirmed its commitment to leveraging global sporting events to position the country as a premier tourism and business events destination.
Speaking during the 2026 World Rally Championship flag-off in Naivasha Cabinet Secretary for Tourism and Wildlife,
Rebecca Miano, noted that sports tourism continues to provide one of the most powerful
global platforms and surest ways of showcasing Magical Kenya’s diverse tourism offerings while reinforcing the country’s competitiveness in the Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Exhibitions (MICE) sector.
“As we work towards growing international visitor numbers, Kenya is increasingly leveraging sports as a powerful marketing platform. Events such as the Safari Rally allow us to showcase our landscapes, culture, and hospitality infrastructure to a global audience while positioning the country as a preferred destination for tourism and international business events,” said Miano.
As part of these efforts, the Ministry, through the Kenyatta International Convention Centre, has sponsored a rally car during the 2026 edition of the World Rally Championship. This strategic initiative is aimed at amplifying Kenya’s global visibility while reinforcing the country’s growing stature as a leading hub for international conferences, exhibitions, and lifestyle events within the Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Exhibitions (MICE) sector.
The sponsorship reflects a broader government strategy to utilise high profile international
events to market Magical Kenya’s tourism assets while promoting Kenya as a leading MICE destination in Africa.
“The sponsorship by KICC symbolises how Kenya is innovatively integrating sports tourism with meetings and conference tourism. By participating in a globally recognised event such as the Safari Rally, we are effectively taking the Destination Kenya brand to millions of viewers around the world,” she added.
The Safari Rally, a flagship event within the World Rally Championship, attracts global television audiences, international media coverage, and thousands of motorsport fans who travel to Kenya to experience the event. This visibility provides a unique opportunity to highlight Kenya’s capabilities not only as an adventure tourism destination but also as a modern Centre for global meetings and events.
In collaboration with tourism stakeholders, the rally campaign is currently delivering a series of
high impact media engagements, digital storytelling, and experiential activations designed to showcase Kenya’s unique tourism experiences.
The initiative is also featuring dynamic content production, rally-themed tourism promotions,
and fan engagement experiences aimed at converting the global audience following the Safari Rally into future leisure visitors and international business travelers, while reinforcing Kenya’s position as a leading destination for tourism and MICE events.
“With the global attention surrounding the Safari Rally, Kenya is effectively racing toward its tourism growth targets while demonstrating the strength of our MICE infrastructure and our
readiness to host world-class international events,” she said.
The Government remains committed to strengthening partnerships across the tourism, sports, and events sectors to ensure Kenya continues to stand out as Africa’s premier destination for tourism, adventure, and global conferences.
“Through sports, tourism, and business events, Magical Kenya is telling a powerful story to
the world; that this is a destination where unforgettable experiences meet world-class
meetings,” she said.
