KeNHA Announces Temporary Traffic Disruption at Globe Roundabout Along Thika Superhighway
Motorists using the busy Thika Superhighway have been advised to plan their journeys carefully following a temporary traffic disruption at Globe Roundabout.
In a public notice issued by the Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA), the authority announced that part of the road at Globe Roundabout will be partially closed beginning March 12, 2026, to facilitate reinstatement works on the nearby Nairobi River bridge. The works are expected to run until March 19, 2026.
According to the notice, several temporary traffic diversions have been introduced to ensure the smooth flow of vehicles and minimize disruption for motorists accessing Nairobi Central Business District and surrounding areas.
Traffic heading to the CBD from Thika will be redirected to use the Globe Overpass. Motorists heading towards University Way from Thika will be required to use Prof Wangari Maathai Road, while those travelling from Thika to Kirinyaga Road and OTC Bus Station will be diverted through Ring Road.
Motorists travelling from Kipande Road to the CBD will use Limuru Road at the Fig Tree Junction before joining Prof Wangari Maathai Road.
Meanwhile, drivers coming from University Way or the CBD who intend to make a U-turn at Globe Roundabout towards Thika have been advised to proceed to the Guru Nanak U-Turn instead.
KeNHA noted that additional temporary traffic control measures, including lane management and further diversions, may be introduced as technical investigations and stabilization works continue around the site.
Motorists have been urged to exercise caution while approaching the work area and strictly follow directions issued by traffic police and marshals deployed along the affected routes.
The Director General of KeNHA, Luka Kimeli, said the authority remains committed to maintaining road safety while critical infrastructure works are carried out. He emphasized that timely updates and structured traffic management are part of KeNHA’s efforts to protect motorists and improve the country’s road network.
KeNHA has assured the public that the temporary inconvenience is necessary to facilitate essential repairs and restore the integrity of the bridge infrastructure along the busy highway corridor. Motorists are encouraged to cooperate with authorities and use the designated alternative routes during the period of the works.
