Kalonzo Musyoka Congratulates Kikwete on AU Appointment

Wiper Democratic Movement leader Kalonzo Musyoka has congratulated former Tanzanian President Jakaya Kikwete following his appointment as the African Union High Representative for the Horn of Africa and the Red Sea.

In a statement issued on Thursday, Musyoka described Kikwete’s new role under the African Union as both timely and well-deserved, citing the need for experienced leadership in a region facing complex security and diplomatic challenges.

“This is a well-deserved call to service at a time when our region requires steady hands, clarity of thought, and principled leadership,” Musyoka said. “Your depth of experience and understanding of our continent’s dynamics places you in a unique position to drive meaningful engagement and lasting solutions.”

The former Kenyan vice president noted that the Horn of Africa remains a critical geopolitical zone, with ongoing conflicts and humanitarian concerns demanding coordinated regional and international responses.

Musyoka expressed confidence that Kikwete’s track record in leadership and diplomacy would contribute significantly to peacebuilding efforts across the region. He also wished him success as he undertakes the new responsibility, emphasizing the importance of unity and sustained dialogue among African nations.

Kikwete, who previously served as Tanzania’s president from 2005 to 2015, is expected to spearhead initiatives aimed at enhancing stability and fostering cooperation among countries in the Horn of Africa and along the Red Sea corridor.

His appointment has been welcomed by regional leaders, who view it as a positive step toward strengthening the African Union’s role in conflict resolution and strategic engagement.
