Housing PS Charles Hinga Mwaura Highlights Affordable Housing Progress in Uasin Gishu
By John Kariuki
The Principal Secretary for Housing and Urban Development, Charles Hinga Mwaura CBS CA (SA), says as Eldoret embraces its City of Champions status, the growing population is increasing the demand for decent and accessible housing. The Kimumu AMS Affordable Housing Project in Moiben Constituency, Uasin Gishu County, is responding to this need, with the development now 80 percent complete.
The project features 226 housing units spanning social, affordable, and market-rate segments, offering options for residents across different income levels. Guided by the State Department for Housing and Urban Development, the development integrates residential blocks with retail shops for daily convenience, paved walkways, ample parking, and recreational spaces.
Designed as a self-contained community, the Kimumu AMS project also ensures reliable water supply, modern waste management, and well-paved access roads, delivering an urban living experience that promotes dignity and comfort for residents.
The development aims to not only provide homes but also create a safe and vibrant neighborhood where families can thrive.
Beyond housing, the project is creating significant economic opportunities for the local community. Construction and allied activities have provided jobs for youth and skilled workers, while the inclusion of commercial shops will stimulate local businesses and support small entrepreneurs. By integrating education, recreation, and social spaces, the project encourages a sense of community and social cohesion among residents.
The Principal Secretary emphasizes that projects like Kimumu AMS reflect the government’s commitment to providing affordable, high-quality housing while supporting Eldoret’s rapid urban growth. He notes that such developments are key to building sustainable, inclusive cities where citizens enjoy improved quality of life and economic opportunities.
With completion on the horizon, the Kimumu AMS Affordable Housing Project is set to become a model for future urban development, demonstrating how well-planned housing can transform communities and drive lasting social and economic impact.
