Former Kirinyaga Senator Daniel Karaba Dies, Nation Mourns

Daniel Karaba, a former Senator and long-serving educationist, is dead. His passing was announced by Anne Waiguru, who led leaders and residents of Kirinyaga County in mourning the loss of a prominent public figure.

In a statement, Governor Waiguru described Karaba as a distinguished son of Kirinyaga whose life was marked by dedication to service, humility, and a strong commitment to education and leadership.

Karaba, widely known as “Mwalimu,” built a notable career in the education sector before venturing into politics. He served as a teacher, later rising to become a principal and an influential education leader, shaping the lives of many students and contributing to the development of the sector.

He later joined elective politics and served as a two-term Member of Parliament for Kirinyaga Central, where he represented his constituents in the National Assembly. He would go on to serve as Senator, further cementing his legacy as a committed public servant.

During his time in leadership, Karaba was recognized for his calm approach, dedication to his constituents, and advocacy for education and community development. His leadership style earned him respect from colleagues across the political spectrum and admiration from those he served.

Governor Waiguru said his death is a significant loss not only to Kirinyaga County but to the entire country, noting that his contributions will be remembered for years to come.

“I join the people of Kirinyaga and the nation in mourning his loss, and extend my heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, and all those he impacted,” she said.

Leaders and residents have continued to send messages of condolence, describing the late Karaba as a mentor, a leader of integrity, and a man who devoted his life to uplifting others.

Funeral arrangements are expected to be announced later.

Karaba’s death leaves a gap in both the political and education sectors, where his influence was widely felt. He is remembered as a leader whose legacy will endure through the many lives he touched.
