Coffee Revival Programme Expands to Busia and Machakos Counties

The government’s coffee revitalization efforts gained further momentum today with the distribution of thousands of coffee seedlings to farmers in Busia and Machakos counties under the Revival of Coffee through Cooperative Societies Programme.

In Busia County, members of the Busia Robusta Farmers Cooperative Society (FCS) received 10,000 Robusta coffee seedlings aimed at boosting coffee production in the region. The distribution exercise was flagged off by Deputy County Commissioner Mr. Leo Amimo alongside National Coffee Steering Committee member Mr. Kennedy Kiluake. Officials encouraged farmers to take advantage of the initiative to expand coffee farming and improve household incomes.

Meanwhile, in Machakos County, farmers from Kilalani Farmers Cooperative Society benefited from 28,000 coffee seedlings distributed as part of the same programme. The seedlings were officially flagged off by Assistant County Commissioner Ms. Piscilisa Minayo and the County Executive Committee Member for Agriculture Hon. John Kilonzo. Also present at the event were the society’s chairperson Mr. John Mutuku and representatives from the New Kenya Planters Cooperative Union (KPCU).

Leaders at both events emphasized the importance of cooperative societies in strengthening the coffee sector and ensuring farmers receive the support needed to increase production and access better markets.

The seedling distributions form part of ongoing efforts to revitalize coffee farming across various regions in the country, enabling farmers to expand acreage and prepare for future harvests as demand for Kenyan coffee continues to grow.
