Leveraging Information and Communication Technology: KNQA Hosts Microsoft Team for Strategic Talks

The Kenya National Qualifications Authority (KNQA) has taken a significant step toward strengthening Kenya’s education and skills ecosystem after hosting a delegation from Microsoft Kenya for high-level strategic discussions on digital transformation and qualifications management.

The courtesy visit, led by KNQA Director General Dr. Alice Kande, focused on collaborative opportunities to support the implementation of the Kenya National Qualifications Framework (KNQF). Central to the discussions was the integration of Microsoft’s expertise in cloud computing, artificial intelligence (AI)-driven tools, and digital platforms to enhance the efficiency, accessibility, and global competitiveness of Kenya’s qualifications system.

Dr. Kande emphasized the importance of leveraging information and communication technology to strengthen the national qualifications database. She noted that digitizing and modernizing the system would improve data integrity, streamline verification processes, and support real-time recognition of academic and professional credentials.

Microsoft Kenya highlighted its capacity to provide secure cloud infrastructure and AI-powered solutions that can enable digital credentialing and support the seamless recognition of micro-credentials. Such innovations are expected to play a critical role in responding to the rapidly evolving demands of the global technology-driven labor market.

The proposed collaboration aims to enhance learner mobility by aligning Kenyan qualifications with international standards, making it easier for graduates and professionals to access global opportunities. By embracing digital credentialing and micro-credential recognition, the partnership also seeks to promote lifelong learning and continuous skills development.

Stakeholders believe the engagement signals a forward-looking approach to education reform—one that places technology at the heart of skills recognition and workforce readiness. As Kenya continues to position itself as a regional technology hub, the KNQA-Microsoft engagement underscores the growing role of public-private partnerships in shaping a resilient, innovative, and globally competitive education landscape.
