Kenya and Greece Deepen Bilateral Ties Following High-Level Courtesy Call

Her Excellency Vicky Pantazopoulou, Honorary Consul of the Republic of Kenya to the Hellenic Republic, today paid a courtesy call on the Principal Secretary for Diaspora Affairs, Roseline Njogu, in a meeting that underscored the growing partnership between Kenya and Greece.

The discussions centered on strengthening bilateral relations between Kenya and Greece, with particular emphasis on diaspora engagement, labour mobility, trade, and cultural cooperation. Both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to enhancing collaboration in areas that directly benefit citizens of both nations.

A key highlight of the meeting was the exploration of strategies to safeguard the welfare of Kenyans living and working in Greece. The two officials proposed the development of a Bilateral Labour Agreement aimed at creating structured and secure pathways for Kenyan workers seeking employment opportunities in Greece. The proposed framework is expected to streamline labour migration while ensuring the protection of workers’ rights and welfare.

The leaders also acknowledged the significant role of the Kenyan diaspora in fostering stronger trade and investment ties between the two countries. They agreed to work closely on initiatives that leverage diaspora networks to boost economic cooperation and cultural exchange.

In a major step toward enhancing Kenya’s presence in Greece, the meeting resolved to collaborate on the establishment of a permanent Kenya House in Athens later this year. The facility is envisioned as a hub for diaspora engagement, consular services, trade promotion, and cultural diplomacy.

Ms. Velma Mudibo, FSO, was also present during the meeting.

The engagement reflects Kenya’s continued efforts to strengthen diplomatic relations and expand opportunities for its citizens abroad through strategic partnerships and structured labour mobility frameworks.
