EACC Arrests Four Gatundu North NG-CDF Committee Members Over Alleged KES 300,000 Bribery Scheme

The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has arrested four members of the Gatundu North Constituency NG-CDF Committee over allegations of extorting KES 300,000 from a contractor in exchange for approving payment of KES 9.1 million for completed public works.

Those arrested are Annah Mugure Njoroge, Susan Wanjiru Muchiri, Stephen Waititu Mungai and James Kibe Ngige. The arrests followed a complaint alleging that the officials demanded the bribe to authorize payment for projects undertaken at Karure Primary School.

According to preliminary investigations, the contractor had completed three projects at the school, including construction of a modern kitchen, levelling and landscaping works, and the uplifting and renovation of an administration block and six classrooms. The projects were finalized on 31 January 2026, after which the contractor formally requested payment.

However, the four committee members allegedly withheld approval of the payment, citing unspecified unresolved issues. On 23 February 2026, the complainant reportedly met three of the suspects, who allegedly demanded KES 300,000 in order to refrain from raising objections to the pending payment.

The Commission mounted an operation on 25 February 2026 that led to the arrest of the suspects at the school premises as they allegedly received KES 250,000 from the contractor. The four were escorted to the Integrity Centre for processing before being booked at Kilimani Police Station.

They were later released on cash bail of KES 40,000 each pending completion of investigations.

The Commission has reiterated its commitment to combating bribery at service delivery points, emphasizing that corruption undermines public trust and compromises the quality of services meant to benefit citizens.
