Two Iranian Nationals Arrested in Thika Over Alleged Theft Scheme

Police in Thika have arrested two Iranian nationals in connection with an alleged theft incident that left a local trader KSh15,000 poorer.

The suspects, identified as 56-year-old Heidari Mansoior Eslam and his 40-year-old accomplice Babaei Ahmad Mirzaaga, were apprehended after a mobile phone shop attendant grew suspicious of their conduct while they posed as potential customers.

According to police, the shopkeeper became uneasy when he recognised the duo as resembling suspects linked to a theft reported at a nearby shop about a month earlier. Acting on his instincts, he contacted a fellow trader who arrived at the scene and positively identified the two men as the individuals who had allegedly swindled him out of KSh15,000 using deceptive tactics.

An alarm was raised, drawing the attention of members of the public, who attempted to confront the suspects. However, officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) arrived in time and intervened, rescuing the suspects from a potential mob attack and placing them under protective custody.

The two foreign nationals are currently being held at Thika Police Station, where they are undergoing processing as investigations continue. Police say the suspects are expected to be arraigned in court once inquiries are complete.

Authorities have urged members of the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to law enforcement agencies.
