Suspect Arrested in Connection with Fatal Shooting in Ang’ata Barrikoi



Detectives from the Operations Action Team (OAT), in collaboration with Transmara South officers, have arrested Joshua Nkabash Sakuyiai, the prime suspect in the fatal shooting of 35-year-old Charles Korir on August 13, 2025, in Ang’ata Barrikoi.

On the evening of the incident, residents reported hearing gunshots near Loliondo Farm in the Mashangwa area along Ngeendalel–Mashangwa Road. Responding officers rushed to the scene and found Korir had been shot twice in the head at close range.

Preliminary investigations indicate that a gang of approximately eight armed men ambushed Korir before fleeing through a nearby sugarcane plantation toward Migori County. The crime scene was carefully documented, and the victim’s body was transferred to Kilgoris Hospital Mortuary for autopsy.

A manhunt for the suspects was launched immediately. Utilizing forensic leads, detectives tracked and arrested Sakuyiai in Lolgorian on December 31, 2025. He was arraigned at Kilgoris Law Courts but could not raise the cash bail of Sh100,000 and was consequently remanded at Lolgorian Police Station. The case is set for mention on January 13, 2026.

Authorities say investigations are ongoing, with efforts focused on apprehending the remaining accomplices who are still at large.
