Prof. Catherine Gachutha Thanks KCPA Members as She Exits Office

Outgoing Chairperson of the Kenya Counselling and Psychological Association (KCPA), Prof. Catherine Gachutha, has expressed heartfelt gratitude to the Association’s membership as she concludes her tenure, marking the end of a leadership journey that spans more than a decade.

Prof. Gachutha served as KCPA Chairperson during two separate terms — the 3rd Administration from 2009 to 2012 and the 6th Administration from 2022 to 2025 — a distinction she described as a rare honour and a reflection of the trust bestowed upon her by the Association’s members.

“I hold nothing but deep gratitude to the KCPA membership for the opportunity to serve not once, but twice,” Prof. Gachutha said. “Leading this Association across two different eras has been a great privilege and a defining professional journey.”

Reflecting on her most recent term, Prof. Gachutha acknowledged that the period was characterised by a highly competitive and at times challenging electoral process. However, she emphasized that KCPA remained united and resilient, staying focused on its mission to advance counselling and psychological practice in Kenya and the wider African region.

“Despite moments of difficulty, the Association has remained intact and steadfast. This speaks to the maturity, professionalism, and shared values of our members,” she noted.

Prof. Gachutha also expressed confidence in the incoming leadership under the chairpersonship of Dr. Tabitha Mukhwana, saying the new team is well positioned to guide the Association into its next phase of growth.

“As I hand over, I am confident that KCPA will continue to grow from strength to strength, upholding professional excellence, ethical practice, and service to society,” she said.

KCPA remains one of the region’s leading professional bodies for counsellors and psychologists, playing a key role in advocacy, professional development, and the promotion of mental health and wellbeing.
