Renowned Eldoret Photo and Videographer Charles Gilgil Passes On
Gilgil, who battled throat cancer, passed away after a courageous fight with the illness, leaving behind a legacy of creativity, mentorship, and service to the community. Colleagues remember him not only as a skilled storyteller but also as a mentor who nurtured young talent and inspired countless media professionals in Uasin Gishu and beyond.
Lawrence Koech, a freelance journalist and close friend of Gilgil, shared his grief, noting that Charles was a pillar in his personal and professional growth. “Charles was not just a colleague; he was my mentor. At Jemon Media, we worked together on numerous projects, sharing long hours of planning, filming, and editing. Beyond our work, he always reminded us that media is about impact, not just content,” Koech said.
During his time at Jemon Media, Gilgil collaborated on numerous projects aimed at transforming storytelling and development narratives, particularly across Elgeyo Marakwet County. Colleagues say many of his innovative ideas and proposals remain unfulfilled, a testament to the potential and passion he still held.
Despite his illness, Gilgil continued to influence and guide those around him. His wisdom and encouragement have left a permanent mark on the media professionals he mentored, ensuring that his vision and values will endure.
Gilgil’s passing is a significant loss to the Eldoret media scene, but his contributions and mentorship will continue to inspire generations of creatives.
