Nairobi Woman Representative Hon. Esther Passaris Stands with Mukuru Fire Victims, Calls for Urgent Fire Safety Measures
Today, Nairobi Woman Representative Hon. Esther Muthoni Passaris joined hands with the community to provide critical humanitarian support to families affected by the recent Mukuru fire tragedy, which claimed lives, left two children orphaned, and destroyed homes and livelihoods.
The outreach included the distribution of food supplies, household items, and other urgent necessities to affected families. In addition, financial support was provided to assist with burial arrangements, offering dignity and relief to grieving families during this difficult time.
Hon. Passaris expressed her sincere gratitude to the National Government Affirmative Action Fund (NGAAF) for making the intervention possible and for standing with affected families when it mattered most.
She further noted with concern that Nairobi experiences an average of two fire incidents every week, many of which occur in informal settlements. This, she emphasized, underscores the urgent need for community sensitisation, fire safety awareness, and preventive measures** to protect lives, homes, and livelihoods.
“This is a call to action. We must act before tragedy strikes again,” Hon. Passaris stated.
The Nairobi Woman Representative reaffirmed her commitment to compassionate, people-centred leadership and to championing initiatives that enhance safety, resilience, and dignity for all Nairobi residents.
