Officials Engage Tendwo Community on Key Development Priorities

Public Service and Treasury Principal Secretary Dr. Chris Kiptoo on Thursday held an extensive consultative meeting with residents of Tendwo Sub-Location in Kaptagat Ward, Ainabkoi, to discuss development initiatives aimed at improving livelihoods, infrastructure, and environmental sustainability in the area.

The discussions brought together community members, local leaders, and government officials to deliberate on several pressing issues, including forest conservation, water infrastructure, rural roads, electricity connectivity, and boosting agricultural productivity. Dr. Kiptoo lauded the residents for their strong support of conservation efforts, noting that sustainable management of natural resources is critical for long-term development.

“The community’s willingness to participate in conservation while suggesting practical ways to enhance livelihoods, strengthen food security, and add value to farm produce is commendable. These efforts are essential not only for local development but also for boosting exports and economic growth,” Dr. Kiptoo said.

The PS highlighted ongoing improvements in the area’s road network, which have enhanced connectivity and access to markets, health facilities, and schools. He also provided updates on plans for the proposed integrated Tendwo-Kapsemwo Dam in Kaptagat Ward. Once completed, the dam is expected to significantly improve water supply for irrigation, domestic use, and livestock, while creating opportunities for economic empowerment and job creation in the region.

Dr. Kiptoo emphasized the importance of collaborative governance, encouraging community members to remain actively engaged in planning and implementing development projects to ensure they reflect local needs and priorities.

The meeting was attended by several senior officials, including CPA Ephantus Kimotho, Principal Secretary for Irrigation; Hon. Phylis Bartoo, MP for Moiben; and Hon. Evans Kapkea, Deputy Governor of Uasin Gishu County. The delegation also conveyed regards from the area MP, Hon. Samwel Chepkonga, who reiterated his commitment to supporting initiatives that improve the welfare of residents in Tendwo and surrounding areas.

Community leaders actively participated in the discussions, presenting proposals on enhancing agricultural productivity through mechanized farming, improving access to clean water, and promoting small-scale agribusiness ventures. Residents also shared their concerns about maintaining forest cover while ensuring access to land and resources for farming and grazing.

“This kind of engagement strengthens the bond between government and citizens. It ensures that development is people-centered and that projects implemented have a real impact on communities,” Dr. Kiptoo noted.

The officials concluded the meeting by assuring the community that the government is committed to creating an enabling environment for investment, improving infrastructure, and supporting sustainable livelihoods. Residents welcomed the dialogue, describing it as a meaningful step towards inclusive development and participatory decision-making in Uasin Gishu County.

The engagement is part of ongoing efforts by the government to consult communities across the county and nation to identify pressing development needs and implement interventions that empower citizens, promote economic growth, and enhance environmental sustainability.
