MP Kipchumba Defends Medical Verification in Reported Healing Claims
Marakwet West Member of Parliament Timothy Kipchumba has weighed in on the growing public debate surrounding reported miracle healings, emphasizing that the role of medical professionals is limited to confirming prior diagnoses, while matters of healing fall within the realm of faith.
Speaking during a community forum on Sunday, Kipchumba said a miracle should be understood as an extraordinary event that defies natural laws and human expectation, often attributed to divine intervention and supernatural power.
“A miracle, by definition, goes beyond science,” the MP stated. “The responsibility of medics is simply to confirm that, before the event, a patient was genuinely diagnosed with a disease. What happens thereafter is not a medical question—it is a matter of faith.”
Kipchumba noted that documented medical records before reported healings are sufficient to establish credibility, arguing that demanding scientific explanations for outcomes believed to be divine misunderstands both medicine and religion.
His remarks come amid national conversations surrounding healing services led by Prophet David Owuor, which have drawn both widespread support and scrutiny. Critics have called for post-healing medical verification, while supporters argue that faith-based miracles should not be subjected to laboratory standards.
“We must respect professional boundaries,” Kipchumba added. “Doctors deal with diagnosis and treatment. Divine intervention, if one believes in it, is beyond human control or explanation.”
The MP urged Kenyans to approach the issue with mutual respect, cautioning against ridiculing faith or discrediting medical science. He called for peaceful coexistence between belief systems and professional practice, noting that both play important roles in society.
As the debate continues, religious leaders, medical professionals, and policymakers are expected to engage further on how faith claims intersect with public health and public discourse.
