Junet Mohamed Demands Accountability Over Alleged Mismanagement of 2022 ODM Campaign Funds
Suna East Member of Parliament Junet Mohamed has escalated a simmering dispute within the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), issuing fresh allegations over the handling of campaign funds during the 2022 General Election.
In a sharp response to ODM Secretary-General Edwin Sifuna, Junet claimed that former President Uhuru Kenyatta personally handed over money intended for the payment of election agents to his brother, Muhoho Kenyatta. According to Junet, Muhoho then appointed Peter Mburu to oversee the disbursement of the funds.
The MP alleged that despite the allocation, election agents for ODM’s presidential candidate Raila Odinga were never procured in several critical regions during the polls—an omission he suggested may have adversely affected the party’s performance.
Junet challenged former President Kenyatta, Muhoho Kenyatta, Peter Mburu, and Edwin Sifuna to publicly explain how the funds were handled and to account for their use.
“This is not about personalities but about accountability,” Junet said, insisting that party members and supporters deserve clarity on how campaign resources were managed during a high-stakes election.
The allegations come amid growing internal debate within ODM over the party’s 2022 campaign strategy and post-election accountability. While Sifuna has previously addressed questions regarding campaign finances, he has not yet publicly responded to Junet’s latest claims.
Neither Uhuru Kenyatta nor the other individuals named had issued a statement at the time of publication.
The dispute adds to ongoing discussions within the opposition on transparency, internal governance, and lessons learned from the last general election as parties begin positioning themselves for future political contests.
