Government Rolls Out Second Phase of NYOTA Youth Business Grants

The government has commenced the second phase of disbursement of business start-up capital under the National Youth Opportunities Towards Advancement (NYOTA) Project, targeting nearly 50,000 youth beneficiaries across 27 counties.

Speaking during a Business Skills training session for NYOTA Project beneficiaries in Makadara Constituency, Nairobi County, on November 29, 2025, Principal Secretary in the State Department for MSMEs Development, Susan Mang’eni, said the disbursement will take place between January 8 and January 16, 2026.

Mang’eni noted that all beneficiaries will be enrolled in a two-month mentorship programme delivered by business development experts and local entrepreneurs to support their entry into local markets.

“The mentorship is designed to help young entrepreneurs translate their ideas into viable enterprises. Beneficiaries will also undertake a second phase of business development support training to prepare them for the second tranche of the business grant,” she said.

She emphasized that participants are required to utilize the funds strictly in accordance with their approved business plans, warning that compliance will be closely monitored to ensure accountability and sustainability of the supported enterprises.

The Principal Secretary further announced that the Phase Three disbursement schedule, which will cover 16 counties including Kilifi, Mombasa, Kisumu, Garissa, and Mandera, will be communicated in due course.

The NYOTA Project is a flagship government initiative aimed at addressing youth unemployment by equipping young people with practical skills, access to enterprise financing, and structured mentorship. Through the programme, the government seeks to promote youth-led enterprises, enhance job creation, and strengthen participation of young people in local economies across the country.
