DCI Volleyball Team Cruises Past Nairobi Prisons in Kenya Cup Opener
The DCI Volleyball Team made a commanding start to the second edition of the Kenya Cup Volleyball Tournament, stunning Nairobi Prisons in straight sets at the Nyayo Indoor Arena.
The sleuths’ victory was spearheaded by Caroline Jeruto, who was named Player of the Match after a scintillating performance that helped her side secure a 25-14, 25-7, 25-19 win. Fresh from winning silver at the Kipchumba Karori International Volleyball Tournament in Eldoret, Jeruto’s skill, agility, and coordination with setter Jane Mumbua were central to the team’s success.
From the very first set, the detectives dominated the court, asserting total control over the game. Coach Patrick Sang rotated the squad strategically, testing both defensive and offensive strengths while maintaining a commanding lead throughout. Jeruto’s introduction during key moments of the game elevated the team’s performance, stealing the limelight with a series of spectacular plays.
Following the victory, DCI’s Staffing Officer Personnel I, Mr. Muriuki Raaria, congratulated the team for their impressive display. “This is an excellent start for our squad. I urge the players to stay focused, remain committed, and carry this momentum into the next game against Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB),” Raaria said.
The DCI team will next face KCB on Saturday in their second group-stage match, where they aim to continue their winning run and assert their dominance in the tournament. Analysts noted that the sleuths’ combination of tactical discipline, strong teamwork, and individual brilliance makes them strong contenders for the cup this year.
Fans and volleyball enthusiasts praised the performance, highlighting Jeruto’s consistency and the team’s synergy as key factors that set them apart from their opponents. With a mix of experience and young talent, the detectives are positioning themselves as serious challengers in this year’s Kenya Cup Volleyball Tournament, a competition that continues to grow in prestige and popularity across the country.
