Chama Cha Mashinani Leader Isaac Ruto Joins UDA Ahead of Grassroots Elections

The Secretary General of the United Democratic Alliance (UDA), Senator Hassan Omar Hassan, today hosted leaders from Bomet County, including Governor H.E Prof. Hillary Barchok, Senator Hillary Sigei, and former Governor H.E Isaac Ruto, in a high-profile meeting ahead of the party’s upcoming grassroots elections.

The consultations, held at UDA party offices, brought together Members of Parliament, County Assembly representatives, and other county leaders to discuss the forthcoming grassroots polls scheduled for 10th January 2026. The discussions underscored UDA’s commitment to internal democracy and people-driven leadership.

During the engagement, Sen. Omar Hassan provided detailed clarifications on the roadmap, timelines, and modalities of the elections, emphasizing that UDA’s strength is anchored in a grassroots-led movement. He also assured party members that the elections would be free, fair, and transparent, calling for active participation from all aspirants and supporters.

The leaders pledged to mobilize and sensitize grassroots supporters to ensure peaceful, credible, and successful elections. They noted that a strong grassroots process would solidify party unity, enhance inclusivity, and position UDA as the party of choice for Kenyans.

The meeting was attended by MPs Hon. Brighton Yegon (Konoin), Hon. Richard Yegon (Bomet East), Hon. Victor Mandazi (Chepalungu), County Women Representative Hon. Linet Chepkorir Toto, MCAs led by Majority Leader Hon. Paul Kirui, and representatives of aspirants.

Significantly, the event marked the official joining of Chama Cha Mashinani (CCM) leader H.E Isaac Ruto into UDA, a move expected to strengthen the party’s political influence in Bomet County and the broader Rift Valley region. Party insiders described Ruto’s entry as a boost to UDA’s grassroots machinery ahead of the elections, signaling a consolidation of support for the party in upcoming national and county-level contests.

The Bomet leaders and party officials expressed optimism that the upcoming grassroots elections would not only enhance democratic practices within UDA but also set the stage for broader political stability and unity in the region.
