𝐋𝐮𝐬𝐚𝐤𝐚 𝐃𝐢𝐬𝐦𝐢𝐬𝐬𝐞𝐬 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐩𝐚𝐠𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐚 𝐎𝐯𝐞𝐫 𝐁𝐮𝐧𝐠𝐨𝐦𝐚 𝐀𝐢𝐫𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐢𝐩 𝐋𝐚𝐧𝐝, 𝐒𝐚𝐲𝐬 𝐒𝐦𝐚𝐫𝐭 𝐂𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐣𝐞𝐜𝐭 𝐨𝐧 𝐂𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐬𝐞.

Governor Kenneth Lusaka has dismissed claims that the defunct Bungoma Airstrip land has been grabbed, assuring residents that the parcel was lawfully degazetted to pave the way for the establishment of a Smart City.

Speaking on Sunday while fellowshipping at Lugulu Friends Church, Lusaka termed the ongoing narratives surrounding the fencing of the airstrip land as misleading propaganda driven by critics keen on derailing development.

“The Bungoma Airstrip land was duly degazetted by the Kenya Airports Authority (KAA). It has not been grabbed, and no individual stands to benefit personally from this project,” Lusaka said.

The Governor explained that the fencing works currently underway are part of preparatory measures for the planned Smart City, which is expected to spur urban development, create jobs and stimulate economic growth in Bungoma County.

At the same time, Lusaka noted that air transport services in the county remain a priority, revealing that the Matulo Airstrip is undergoing expansion to enhance seamless commercial operations.

He disclosed that the Kenya Airports Authority is fast-tracking the construction of passenger terminals and the installation of modern security features to improve safety and efficiency for air travelers once the project commences.

“The expansion of Matulo Airstrip will position Bungoma as a competitive hub for commercial air services, while ensuring the highest safety standards for passengers,” he added.

Lusaka reiterated that 2026 would be a year of accelerated service delivery, affirming that his administration remains focused on delivering key legacy projects that will have a lasting impact on the county.

“This is a year of service. We are determined to deliver development that improves the livelihoods of our people and secures Bungoma’s future,” the Governor said.
