Wanjau Praises Uasin Gishu County Service Centre as Model for Digitised Public Service

Secretary to the Cabinet Mercy Wanjau has lauded the Uasin Gishu County Service Centre for streamlining access to government services, describing it as a benchmark for transparency and efficiency that other counties can emulate.

Speaking after touring the facility, Ms. Wanjau said the centre enables wananchi to access multiple permits and services under one roof without being redirected to different offices. “I am impressed that the centre allows wananchi to access all permits in one location without being redirected to other offices. It is a model of transparency and efficiency, and Uasin Gishu will serve as a benchmark for other counties,” she said.

The County Service Centre operates as a one-stop hub, integrating key services such as business permit processing and land rates payments. Ms. Wanjau termed the initiative “one-of-a-kind,” noting that it aligns with President William Ruto’s vision of an efficient, digitised public service that enhances service delivery and reduces bureaucracy.

County Secretary Philip Meli said the county government remains committed to the full digitisation of services, in line with the administration’s development agenda. He noted that Governor Jonathan Bii has prioritised the use of technology to improve efficiency, accountability, and citizen experience in accessing county services.

Finance and Economic Planning CEC Micah Rogony highlighted the positive impact of the system on county revenue performance. He said revenue collection has shown steady improvement since the introduction of the integrated digital platform, attributing the gains to enhanced compliance, real-time tracking, and reduced leakages.

The visit underscores growing collaboration between the national and county governments in advancing digital transformation within the public sector. Officials from the Ministry of Information, Communications and the Digital Economy said initiatives such as the Uasin Gishu County Service Centre demonstrate how technology can be leveraged to improve governance outcomes and deliver citizen-centred services.
