Vihiga Governor, Deputy Governor Inaugurate Official Residences, Pledge Enhanced Governance

Vihiga County Governor Dr. Wilber Khasilwa Ottichilo today officially opened the official residences for both the Governor and Deputy Governor, in the company of his Deputy, H.E. Wilberforce Kitiezo, marking a significant milestone in the county’s governance and administrative infrastructure.

Speaking during the event, Governor Ottichilo expressed satisfaction with the strategic location of the residences, highlighting that their central positioning will enhance accessibility, administrative coordination, and service delivery. “These residences are not just homes; they are symbols of institutional leadership and good governance,” he remarked.

The Governor further announced that the County Government will convene a stakeholders’ meeting in mid-February to undertake a mid-term review of the County Integrated Development Plan (CIDP). He explained that the review will provide an opportunity to assess progress made so far, identify gaps, and ensure that county priorities continue to align with the needs and aspirations of residents.

Dr. Ottichilo also used the occasion to call for unity and cohesion in Vihiga County, urging residents to embrace leadership that is rooted in competence, integrity, and service rather than clannism or divisive considerations. He appealed to the clergy and religious leaders to actively champion peace and unity within communities.

“This county is stable, united, and ready to move forward. We have the necessary laws and institutional frameworks in place to support effective governance and deliver quality services to our people,” Governor Ottichilo stated.

The Governor’s and Deputy Governor’s official residences make Vihiga County one of the few counties in Kenya to have dedicated official homes for both top county leaders, reflecting a deliberate effort to strengthen institutional leadership, promote transparency, and enhance administrative efficiency.

Deputy Governor Kitiezo lauded the initiative, emphasizing that having official residences will facilitate better coordination of county activities, improve response times in governance matters, and serve as a hub for county planning and policy discussions.

Residents and stakeholders attending the event commended the county leadership for the development, noting that the official residences will boost the county’s image and create a conducive environment for effective governance.

Governor Ottichilo concluded by urging all residents, government officials, and stakeholders to continue working together to realize Vihiga County’s development goals, stressing that unity, accountability, and inclusive leadership remain the foundation for progress.
