Uasin Gishu Leaders Unite to Honor the Life and Legacy of Late Bishop Joseph Likavo
Uasin Gishu Governor Jonathan Bii has joined national and local leaders in paying tribute to the late Bishop Joseph Likavo, remembering him as a distinguished servant leader whose life was anchored in faith, unity, and unwavering commitment to the church and the wider community.
Governor Bii described Bishop Likavo as a man who dedicated his life to nurturing spiritual growth, promoting peaceful coexistence, and serving people with humility and compassion. He noted that the late bishop’s influence extended far beyond the pulpit, touching families, institutions, and communities across the City of Champions and beyond.
The governor spoke during a condolence visit and fundraising service held at the IVC Church in Eldoret, where he was joined by Prime Cabinet Secretary Hon. Musalia Mudavadi, elected leaders, clergy, and congregants from different denominations. The gathering was aimed at supporting the family in raising funds to facilitate the repatriation of Bishop Likavo’s body from the United States, where he passed away.
“Bishop Joseph Likavo will be remembered for his servant leadership and steadfast commitment to faith and unity within the church, our City of Champions, and the wider community,” Governor Bii said. “He was a shepherd who walked closely with his flock, offering guidance, encouragement, and hope, even in challenging times.”
Governor Bii emphasized that Bishop Likavo consistently preached and lived the values of love, tolerance, and togetherness, making him a unifying figure among believers and leaders alike. He noted that the strong turnout at the fundraiser was a clear reflection of the deep respect and admiration the community had for the late bishop.
Prime Cabinet Secretary Hon. Musalia Mudavadi echoed the governor’s sentiments, praising Bishop Likavo for his role in strengthening the church and contributing to social cohesion. He urged leaders and congregants to emulate the bishop’s example of servant leadership, integrity, and commitment to the common good.
Church leaders who spoke during the service recalled Bishop Likavo’s tireless efforts in mentoring young ministers, supporting the needy, and fostering unity among different Christian denominations. They described him as a humble and approachable leader who believed in empowering others and building strong, faith-based communities.
The fundraiser drew support from leaders, friends, and congregants, who gave generously to assist the bereaved family during this difficult time. The atmosphere at the church was marked by prayers, hymns, and messages of encouragement, as mourners stood together in solidarity with the family.
Governor Bii conveyed his deepest condolences to the family, friends, and congregants of Bishop Likavo, assuring them of the county government’s support. He called on residents of Uasin Gishu to continue standing with the family and to honor the late bishop’s legacy by upholding unity, faith, and service to humanity.
